Cisma Ambiente S.p.A. located in Sicily near Siracusa,
is in operation since 2005, in waste disposal management and it has given rise to one of the most technological plants in Italy for the treatment, landfilling, reconditioning and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
The company is managed with the most innovative standards for quality, environment and safety and with the main objective of continuous improvement of its EHS performance.
Cisma Ambiente operates in compliance with the authorizations, released by Regional Authorities, and environmental legislation following, as IPPC Plant, the principle of ”best available techniques” (BAT), attempting
to offer the best solutions to its customer with an appropriate problem-solving connected to waste disposal ensuring the complete traceability from the collection
to the final disposal.
The Company is focused to ensure a high quality of environmental services in full compliance with the current regulations applying stringent procedure constantly improved.
This result is also guaranteed with the implementation of a Certified integrated Management System for Quality, Environment and Safety according to UNI EN ISO 9001:2015, UNI EN ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2007 International Standards. Furthermore, the company adopted an Ethical Code, and set up a Management and Control Organizational Model and a Supervisory Body,
in compliance with D.lgs 231/01 requirements.
The landfill consists of a basin with a volume of 539,000 m3, authorized to accept non-hazardous special waste, as identified by the D. Lgs. 13 January 2003 No. 36 and Art. 6 of Ministerial Decree August 3, 2005, in Annex B to Part IV of Leg. April 3, 2006 n. 152, including among those specifically listed in its Integrated Environmental Authorization.
The CISMA AMBIENTE landfill for the large volume of the basin, is unique in its kind in Sicily.
CISMA AMBIENTE carried out the treatment (D9) of special and hazardous waste thanks to an installation of inerting technology designed and developed by SIMEM. Inertisation occurs through a chemical process and physical immobilization of pollutants in an inert matrix.
The process adopted is inerting in the stabilization / solidification (S / S), obtained with hydraulic binders based on inorganic reagents. The process of S / S is designed to reduce both the mobility of pollutants and the surface of contact between the waste and water percolation: this occurs through a dual action of chemical and structural setting within an inert matrix.
The inerting treatments are designed to reduce the potential of pollutants and hazardous waste, so as to make them suitable for subsequent phases of landfill or recovery.
A reverse split (D13), reconditioning (D14) and preliminary storage (D15) are considered as a preparation to both “in situ” treatment operations and “ex situ” treatment operations in other duly authorized plants.
The part of the plant dedicated to the preliminary storage (D15) consists of three warehouses of the total area of approximately 3000 m2 fully covered, paved and bordered by perimeter walls.
The total volume of deposit covered by the grouping and pre-authorized deposit is about 15,000 m3.
Cisma Ambiente Spa uses an external laboratory to conduct research and development activities on a continuous and ongoing basis. These activities are carried out in cooperation with the IGAG-CNR research centre, thanks to a formal agreement between the parties stipulated in 2011.
The agreement provides for the performance of three types of activities:
1. Process development of:
stabilisation and solidification of waste generated by petrochemical activities, treatment for the management and recovery of catalysts in the petrochemical industry.
2. Technical and scientific support for the management of the environmental analysis laboratory, with particular attention to the micro polluting components analysis.
3.Implementation of industrial research projects, to be presented to European and national calls for funding.
